As football is my new favourite sport, as seen in my previous post on football making me stronger (please have a read if you are interested). I might have stumbled into the rabbit hole that is football boots. When I was younger I used to think that they all looked so tacky and too flashy for my taste. (Because I had supposedly such good fashion when I was 14?) But now looking at all the new boots I can’t help but fall in love with all the loud print and bright colours.

To me putting on football boots is like picking out a good suit of course you want to look good doing in them but you definitely don’t want to spend a fortune. So now I am going to breakdown on my opinion on best boots to buy below retail price!

(Disclaimer: HG/AG boots means artificial grass/ astroturf while FG boots are for natural pitches/ field grass. AG boots are good on artificial grass pitches and natural grass pitches, while FG might not be the best for artificial pitches.)

So above me are the 3 kings of football and they have given us all very good football boots to consider and try out. But before we get into the kinks of each type of football boot, I want to show you the fortune that football boots require.

As you can see from above buying even one pair of these boots can set you behind by a lot. It’s sad to say but this is an expensive hobby. So now you are a little more informed about the pricing of football boots, its time to talk about what each type of boot excels in.

Speed

Speed boots are just how they sound. They are speed. They have innovations and new technologies to help you feel like you run faster on the pitch. Technologies include lighter materials- A snappy insole to boost acceleration and angular studs that give you more grip into the ground for more traction for a faster stop and start. However, these speed boots can be very narrow and constricting so it may not be a good fit for those who have wider feet.

All 3 brands are good options here but I would suggest Adidas X Speedportal.1 ‘Al Rihla’ AG/HG boots or the Adidas X Speedportal.1 ‘Black’ AG/HG. With this pair being $100 below retail price! (It is the $$$ model)

Control

Control boots help with the touch and feel of the ball. These boots aren’t as light as the speed boots but they usually have some technology that involves knitted fabric as seen on the Nike Phantom GX or rubber textiles as seen on the Adidas Predator and Puma Future. The extra grip allows for more manoeuvrability and control. Giving you the edge in tight corners or situations. These boots being wider than the speed boots.

For the control boots I’d suggest a pair of Adidas Predator Edge.1 ‘Al Rihla’ AG/HG. With this pair being $100 below retail price! (It is the $$$ model)

Leather

Leather boots are for those who favour comfort more than anything. Giving you that old school vibe and sometimes people just prefer the fit and feel of leather, whether it be kangaroo or cow, on the ball. Leather boots also come with a really flexible upper (where you strike the ball), giving you a nice barefoot sensation.

For leather boots I’d recommend the Adidas Copa Sense.1 AG/HG . With this pair being $120 below retail price! (It is the $$$ model)

You can also take a look at other boots I have found to be much cheaper than retail price through this link.

Other tips and tricks

If you are looking to buy boots that are cheaper in retail here are the tips,

Looking for old models

With each year companies release a brand new boot, and with each new pair of boots come a new shockingly expensive pricing that they offer. So what do you do? Look for the older ones!

People always want the new and improved but don’t look down on the old models (by old I mean models from the previous year). If you go into Weston Corp (football boot store) and take a look around there are a lot of options for cheaper alternatives that are just as good if not better than the current model on shelves! (Disclaimer: Unlike Adidas and Puma, old models of Nike football boots don’t seem to drop in price very much…)

Buying the ‘best’ boot

When looking at boots, you must realise that the more money you are paying doesn’t always mean the better. Some times the difference between a $$$$ option and a $$ option is just a few very expensive gimmicks that do not affect the way you play at all!

So you must remember to do your research and watch videos discussing the difference in the technologies of your specific boot of interest. Take their advice, and make a good purchase! (Example: Nike Tiempo Legend 9 Elite which is $$$$ and the Nike Tiempo Legend 9 Academy being $. Both being leather boots, but does more premium materials justify a much higher cost when the main feature of the boot is its use of leather and comfortability?!)

Doing a bit of hunting

When looking for boots it is best to do a bit of hunting. For example, in Queensway Shopping Centre there are somehow 2 Weston Corps’. 1 of them sells the newest and greatest brands have to offer, while the other sells older models at way cheaper and reasonable price point!

So before you jump the gun and buy the first pair you see, always scourer the stores or internet, for the best deal possible!

At the end of the day, I think that football can be an expensive hobby, but that just makes finding those deals all the more sweeter.

I am really enjoying the theme/design of your site. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility issues? A handful of my blog readers have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any ideas to help fix this issue?
